Biography

Jeffrey Rucker is an experienced Agile Coach with a demonstrated history of working in the enterprise content management and financial services industries. Skilled in Agile, Lean, Training Delivery, Root Cause Analysis, Management, and Continuous Improvement. He is a former Air Force officer and strong engineering professional who graduated with a BA in Mathematics from Cal State Northridge and an MS in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of Technology.

He was a dedicated Air Force Officer and served three duty assignments covering Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) on the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system, among other Air Force and DoD satellite systems, as well as his Masters degree at AFIT and, finally, being part of the cadre of personnel to standup the local Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21) office supporting HQ Air Combat Command and its affiliate bases. At that final assignment, he was in direct charge of executing and teaching Lean principles across 5 bases while also acting as a Level II instructor/trainer in Lean curricula at his local base.  His military service was decorated with medals of commendation as well as awards earned at the local unit level.

Following his Air Force service, he joined Total Systems Development (TSD) and continued his Lean journey by working for 2nd generation Toyoto Production System leaders from the Georgetown, KY, Toyota plant.  As part of TSD, he came to specialize in the implementation of Lean concepts, tools and methodologies across any organizational structure from administrative to production...concept to delivery.  He earned his Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certificate and was an integral part of implementation journeys focused on culture change, training and development, and Lean production systems.  Additionally, he was a committed instructor and trainer with TSD's clients and taught over 100 students and supervised 9 on their journey to obtain their Black Belt certificates.

After TSD, Jeffrey moved into the software space.  He was brought into Lexmark International's Enterprise Software division as a Certified ScrumMaster.  While a CSM, he was involved in monthly and quarterly product/solution launches and new acquisition integration projects within the Research and Development department. Additionally, he supported all major software version release activities.  Using Agile Lifecycle Management tools, he directly supported over twelve (12) software development teams, helping them navigate the dynamic world of changing requirements, project scope challenges, etc..  However, as he aligned his teams to the core Agile values and principles, they began to deliver consistently and their customers were delighted.

During his last year at Lexmark, he moved into an Agile Coach role in their Healthcare vertical. He helped drive continuous improvement through visibility into productivity, quality, responsiveness, predictability (by means of useful metrics) and retrospectives. This was achieved by effectively coaching better backlog definition, prioritization and grooming. Additionally, he continually connected his teams to their customers in the value stream...and kept those customers connected to Lexmark's Agile framework. To do this, he helped develop, teach, maintain and improve Lexmark's Agile training including both the Scrum and Kanban frameworks.

Jeffrey is currently the Agile Coach at MSTS.  The MSTS Product and Technology department consists of 25 development teams with just as many ScrumMasters and approximately 20 Product Owners -- all spread across three countries.  With global responsibilities, he provides hands-on coaching to teams in all aspects of Agile - both Scrum and Kanban frameworks - and encourages a corporate mindset of continuous improvement.  He works with architecture and software engineering managers to ensure core Agile engineering practices are applied at all levels of work - including continuous integration, automated testing, evolutionary design.  He is always driving the elimination of waste in their software delivery processes using Lean / Six Sigma tools and practices.  He is also responsible for creating and delivering Agile and Lean training for MSTS's five business line solutions, as well as all the engineering team members.  It goes without saying that he is always evangelizing the Agile Manifesto and its principles, in addition to the Lean concepts of systems thinking, problem solving, flow, pull, accountability, collaboration, iterative development, limiting work in progress (WIP), eliminating waste, etc., advancing best practices for scaling and optimizing Agile across the enterprise. This includes identifying process dependencies within, and between, all business lines.  Finally, Jeffrey is intentional to provide individual coaching to team leaders, executives, engineers, product owners and business stakeholders on how to best support an effective Agile practice within MSTS.

Lexmark Enterprise Software, Healthcare Release Manager and Agile Coach

As a Healthcare Release Manager, I am responsible for delivering new major/minor/iterative software releases, version upgrades, patch releases and hot-fixes to the marketplace and to our clients through web-based customer portals. Flexera and Salesforce are the two primary systems I interact with to verify and ensure our clients have the proper licensing and entitlements for their software requests. My team is also in charge of maintaining the integrity of our software version archives. Although I primarily serve the Healthcare value stream, as a Release Manager, my responsibilities span all Lexmark verticals including Enterprise Content Management (comprised of Content, Process, Search and Evolution platforms), Financial Process Automation (comprised of AP Automation and Experience services) , Commercial Industries (comprised of Financial Services, Manufacturing and Government), and our Cloud offerings. To be effective, I must maintain positive relationships with our Support and Professional Services teams. As an Agile Coach in the Healthcare space, I help drive continuous improvement through visibility into productivity, quality, responsiveness, predictability (by means of useful metrics) and retrospectives. This is achieved by effectively coaching better backlog definition, prioritization and "grooming."
