James Bruno (aka Bruno)
I began my career as a software engineer. With several decades in the profession, I had always known that one of the most critical components to successful software development is not the actual writing of the code, but the design of the applcation. And a good design can never occur without accurate requirements. So late in my career, I began transitioning to the field of business systems analysis, which seemed like a logical next step. Soon after that, I discovered Agile Scrum development and the product owner role. It was a perfect fit.
By combining my knowledge of software construction with defined systems analysis techniques, I was able to create specifications that gave my Scrum teams the details necessary to build functionality in a minimal amount of time while still making allowances for businesses to change thier minds. The whole idea of progressive elaboration of requirements makes so much sense on so may levels.
Once I began developing software under Agile Scrum, it was difficult for me to return to traditional plan-based software devlopment methodologies. The software that I help produce in Scrum has proven to be far more successful and provided far more value than any software I produced under other methodologies. And above all - it was FUN! I am a true believer and a Scrum Evangelist!
By the way, I still write code; only now it is just for relaxation.
