Biography

Biplab Roy is a passionate Agile & Lean professional with over 15 years of experience in Organizational transformation, Management Consulting, Strategic Initiatives, Program & Portfolio management, Process management, Gamification, Software Product and Service Development. He has worked for and advised many Global Software Product and Service Companies in Telecom, BFSI, Healthcare, Life sciences and Technology industries.

Biplab truly believes that Agile is not just a methodology or a process prescription, but a Philosophy, a way of working. This philosophy can be used at any setup or any kind of work - be it software product or service development or support work or personal life.

Currently Biplab heads the Agile Practice at Altimetrik. He has previously worked in various functions at Oracle, HCL Technology and IBM. Biplab started his career as a Software development engineer and over the years performed various management and consulting roles in various organizations..

Biplab has an extensive experience in organizational Agility assessment, adoption, transformation, coaching and mentoring. He is passionate about transforming the whole organization into Agile rather than just adopting agile as a practice for product or service development. He works towards taking the organization to be Agile than just doing Agile. In his recent transformation endeavour he is assisting the organization to transform the culture and other non-software functions like HR, finance and marketing etc.

At Altimetrik I am heading the Agile Practice and coaching & mentoring the organization in it’s Agile transformation and Agile adoption journey. My primary responsibilities are: 1. Enabling and facilitating the organization to establish agile culture 2. Facilitating the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers 3. Strategic planning for the whole transformation to get the intended business value, and work with the team to establish road-map, release plan 4. Conduction various Agile workshops to create Agile awareness and focused Scrum Master and Product Owner sessions for implementing teams 5. Coach and mentor the team at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization during this transition (from traditional to Agile) 6. Work with PO and SM during the initial days to ensure these roles are performed to the best possible manner (Like Product backlog created and refined continuously, prioritization based on business value, establishing cross functional, self-organizing empowered team, continuous inspection & adoption, daily level planning, removing impediments, measuring business value achieve etc) 7. At Oracle I was a Principal Consultant and part of Software Engineering Excellence (SEE) group of Oracle Health Science Business Unit (HSGBU). Objective of this group was to enable and facilitate the Organization in various organizational transformation initiatives. During my stay with Oracle, have worked on two such initiatives. A. First: Establishing an state of the art software estimation process and implement estimation tool (SEER-SEM) for all HSGBU products B. Second: Transforming HSGBU to an Agile organization with few focused objectives like: a. Deliver highest business value to the customer early b. Reduce the cycle time c. Establish a release train for all HSGBU products d. Increase the Transparency in the system e. Establish cross functional, self-organized, empowered team My primary responsibilities were: Agile Transformation Initiative 1. HSGBU specific Strategic planning for this transformation 2. Work with management to get the top down support for the transformation 3. Work with the team to establish the transformation road-map, release plan (phase wise implementation plan) etc 4. Enabling and facilitating the organization to establish agile culture 5. Facilitating the product teams and Organization to achieve the business objectives (values) from Agile & Scrum 6. Estimation processes and SEER-SEM implementation: Objective of this initiative was to establish a well-defined software estimation processes and an industry standard estimation tool for all product development and services. Considering the complexity and uncertainty of the project and expected business results, we decided to execute this initiative using Scrum Framework. My primary responsibilities were: 1. Perform the role of Product Owner for this initiative 2. Establishment of requirements (user stories), Product backlog management and change (or exchange) management 3. Work with team to perform estimation and planning (roadmap, release planning, sprint planning etc) for this initiative 4. Work with consulting scrum team regularly on requirement clarification and refinement 5. Review and confirmation on completed requirements (user stories) - sprint review and provide appropriate feedback

During my tenure with HCL, was responsible for managing various development and consulting project with Agile approach (scrum framework) from requirement gathering, development, QA and production implementation.
