Job Analysis Survey

Our previous Blog post detailed the Job Analysis Meeting for the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM®) and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO®) exams. We suggest you read that post before continuing as it will create an informative background for this post.

After the Job Analysis meeting, our representatives from Prometric gathered the information that was agreed upon by the subject matter experts (SMEs) from the global Scrum Alliance community and created various domains and knowledge statements. The survey also asked individuals to submit other test content recommendations for the CSM and CSPO exams. The objective was to gather information from a wide range of industry participants and interpret the responses to guide the design of the exam.

The final draft of the survey was sent to the 12 SMEs from the Job Analysis Design Team as well as to 12 new individuals from the Scrum Alliance community to pilot the survey and make comments or edits. We made the final edits after receiving feedback from the 24 individuals and prepared for launch. Ultimately, we had quite a lot of eyes on it! We then sent it out to all active (i.e. not expired) CSMs and CSPOs.

The domains (and number of knowledge statements) were:
  1. Scrum and Agile (4 statements)
  2. Scrum Theory (5 statements)
  3. Scrum Team (6 statements)
  4. ScrumMaster (4 statements)
  5. Scrum Events (5 statements)
  6. Scrum Artifacts (9 statements)

An example of the Scrum and Agile domain and the corresponding 4 knowledge statements is below.

We reached out to all active (i.e. not expired) certificants holding either the CSM or CSPO and over 10,000 individuals from 95 countries participated! We were very excited (but not surprised) to see how responsive our global community was to completing the survey! Individuals that completed the survey were entered into a drawing for one of five $100 Visa Gift Cards and a free London Gathering registration as a thank you. Did you complete the survey? Well, then thank YOU for providing feedback! And congrats to our 6 winners of the Gift Cards and London Gathering registration!

So, what will we do with the results of the survey? Prometric will conduct comparative analyses as well as descriptive statistics (i.e. means, standard deviations, frequency distributions) on respondents’ backgrounds and other demographic information. Prometric will also report a wide range of statistics regarding the various domain and knowledge statements.

This information will then be provided to the SMEs during the Test Specifications Meeting, which is being held on June 4th in Denver, CO. The SMEs will look at the data and determine a final exam blueprint, or exam content outline, to then be able to have another group of SMEs start to write exam questions based off the outline.

Stay tuned for the blog post detailing what occurred during the Test Specifications Meeting!
