Test Specifications

Our previous blog post detailed the Job Analysis Survey for the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM®) and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO®) exams. We suggest you read that post before continuing as it will create an informative background for this post.

The Job Analysis Survey was a whopping success with over 10,000 individuals from 95 countries participating. Individuals were able to take the survey in English, German, and Portuguese and were also able to make comments on each of the potential knowledge statements and domains for the CSM and CSPO exams. Individuals were also able to allocate the percentage of each domain area they believe should be on the exam.

After the comments, ratings, and demographic information were collected, we gathered the subject matter expert (SME) team from the original Job Analysis meeting. 9 of the original 12 were able to make the June meeting in Denver, CO.

The SMEs were joined by a representative from Prometric, a test development company with which Scrum Alliance has worked with, as well as the Education Team. Together, everyone went through the comments and data from the survey to evaluate whether the original domains and knowledge statements created out of the Job Analysis meeting were accurate. We started with the data from the CSM portion of the survey and then followed with the CSPO trends. Trends in the comments were discussed as well as the weights that survey respondents gave in relation to which sections of the exam should be more prevalent.

The finished products were two exam blueprints: one for the CSM and one for the CSPO, which are below.

These exam blueprints were used to generate exam questions during the Item Writing Meeting, which was held for three days immediately following the Test Specifications Meeting.

Thanks again to our productive Test Specifications SME team! The team members were: Christine Murray, Donna Patterson, Elena Aminova, Gokul Vasudev, Lisa Reeder, Luke Walter, Niharika Goyal, Robert Weidner, and Tara Bluford.
