About the Course
This three-day Certified Scrum Master course covers the what, how and especially the whys of the Scrum framework for product development -- from the theory to practice. The course is structured around stories and discussions and is targetted to anyone who wants a deep understanding of Scrum. This includes team members, ProductOwners, ScrumMasters and other stakeholders. Most of the course is given from the ScrumMasters perspective.
The course lasts 3 days from 9 to 17-18. The first day's content is more conceptual. It covers background, overview, roles, emperical process control, and the key differences between Scrum and other ways of developing new products. It also contains common impacts to the larger organization. The second days content is practical and focused on the ProductOwner and the Team roles. How to do a backlog? How to plan? How to estimate? How to do a daily Scrum? The third day contains more related to the ScrumMaster role, scaling up and organizational obstacles. At the end of the third day, the participant will have concrete knowledge on how to implement Scrum and an understanding of why to do it that way.
Basic knowledge about Scrum is expected and some experience prefered. At minimum read the great introduction to Scrum: the Scrum Primer

About the Instructor
Bas Vodde is a coach, consultant, programmer, trainer, and author related to modern agile and lean product development. When he coaches organizations, he works on three levels: organizational, team, individual/technical practices. He has trained thousands of people in software development, Scrum, and modern agile practices for over a decade. He is the author of the Scaling Agile and Lean Development: Thinking and Organizational Tools for Large-Scale Scrum and of Practices for Large-Scale Agile and Lean Development, both together with Craig Larman. Bas works for Odd-e, a company which supports organization in improving their product development, mainly in Asia.
Bas currently lives in Singapore where he ended up after living in Holland (born), China and Finland. He worked in a couple of start-ups in Holland, after which he, in 2001, had enough of the "normal life" and moved to China and started working for Nokia. In Nokia, he worked on large and traditional projects. This uncomfortable experience convinced him that agile and lean development is a more human way of developing software products -- no matter how large your development is.
He had the opportunity to introduce Agile Development (particularly Scrum) in Nokia Networks (later Nokia Siemens Networks) but had to move to Helsinki. There he watched dozens of product groups adopt scrum and other agile practices. The extreme cold in Finland forced him to migrate south and back to China where he focused on one large product group and its Scrum adoption.
Bas is interested in Scrum with a special focus on large companies and large product development. But he also enjoyed working on technical practices, especially test-driven development (especially in embedded environments) and continuous integration. He keeps working as a developer because he strongly believes you need a well-factored code base if you want to be fast and flexible. His hobbies are studies in lean production and quality management and, of course, programming.
Bas is also one of the authors of the CppUTest unit test framework for C/C++ and of Osaka a Mac UI automation framework written in Ruby.
Kok Ewe ("KE") Siew is an Agile coach at a large multinational semiconductor company. He has been involved in product development since 1994, mainly in test development work for silicon and board products. KE and his teams had always suffered from the typical challenges resulting from the traditional waterfall approach to product development, but didn't quite know why, until he learnt about Agile and Scrum in 2007. Two years later, in 2009, KE made a personal decision to renounce his engineering manager's job, and pursues a new career as a ScrumMaster and Agile coach. Since then, he has taught and coached many Scrum teams to deliver great value. As an Agile evangelist, KE leads a growing Agile movement in the company he works for. His professional mission is to help make the world a better place by creating very effective organizations, where great products are delivered by highly motivated people.
All CSM courses are taught by Trainers approved by the Scrum Alliance. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.
