During this course, your level of experience and personal context drive the content of the course beyond the understanding of the Scrum framework and into it’s practical application. We blend concrete details of Scrum's history, activities and philosophy with stories, practical exercises and group exploration. That means that you to come away with concrete experience in how to apply core Scrum principles and the requisite knowledge to start using Scrum in your organization.
You will gain a deeper understanding of the internal mechanisms of the Scrum framework and a set of practices, exercises and thought tools that will allow you to drive your Scrum implementation forward. We will cover Scrum in contexts such as game development, web application development and enterprise scaling as desired by participants.
Even if you are or plan on being a ScrumMaster, Product Owner, a team member or you are just in a Scrum organization, this course will equip you with the tools you need to get the most out of your Scrum implementation and start the cycle of continuous improvement.
We will also cover Scrum in contexts such as game development, web application development and enterprise scaling as necessary or desired by participants.
The course will be tailored to the needs and experience of the participants but we will plan on covering the following topics:
History of Scrum
Definition of Done
The Product Owner
Product Backlog Refinement
Specialization and Scrum
It is expected that all participants read the Scrum Primer, prior to the course.
Those with more extensive experience with the Scrum framework and who are prepared to discuss their experiences, concerns and questions will gain more discussions and exercises.

About the Instructor:
Emerson Mills - long time software developer, ScrumMaster and coach
I began my software development career in the CAD labs of the automotive industry in Detroit and spent most of my career working in Japan where many concepts that form the core of Scrum initially took root. I’ve worked in traditional Japanese firms, small startups, US Internet giants and Game studios collecting a wide variety of experience to drive my coaching and trainings.
My first experience with Scrum came at Amazon.com in Seattle where I initially opposed Scrum but soon grew interested in growing the implementation as the benefits to the organization and my team became increasingly obvious. After successfully completing a number of successful product launches with Scrum with Amazon in Seattle, I transitioned back to Japan with Amazon starting a ground up Scrum implementation in the mobile development team.
My next step was as CTO at Orinoco K.K. where I implemented a day one Scrum environment in a startup environment.
I helped start the Odd-e presence in Japan and currently coach numerous companies in a wide number of industries.
All CSM courses are taught by Trainers approved by the Scrum Alliance. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.
