This course will be led by Joe Little and Catherine Louis. Joe is an experienced Agile Coach and Scrum Trainer. He co-teaches regularly with Jeff Sutherland and other great Scrum trainers. He has a CSM, CSP, CST and an MBA.
Following the course we have a practical workshop, covering many Team start-up issues (initial Release Planning and the first Sprint Planning, etc). We also discuss start-up issues. This is not included in this price. Attendees at the Workshop have said it was very valuable, so we strongly encourage it.
Participants Will Learn:
- To plan, initiate and lead a Scrum project
- To establish a shared vision for the entire team
- To generate an agile release plan utilizing user stories and story point estimation
- To lead your Scrum team through planning, review, and retrospective sessions
- To create an environment in which self-managing teams can flourish
- To identify and remove impediments
- To identify, engage and involve business stakeholders in your project
- How to take most existing teams to the next level
- Practical suggestions purchased expensively from the school of hard knocks
In this course, we typically mix in XP and Lean ideas. Having worked recently with Jeff Sutherland, we mix in many of his ideas and stories. Having a business background and MBA, we have oriented perhaps a bit more than others toward the Product Owners and business issues. We want you to have a full business success, not a mere technical success.
The course will run from 8:40am-5:10pm each day. You will need to arrive by 8:30am on the first day. A continental breakfast, breaks and lunch will be provided.
Following successful completion of the course and passing of the CSM Exam, a participant can become enrolled as a Certified ScrumMaster. As the CSM Exam is in beta for the next few months, everyone who takes it will pass. All participants will also receive a one-year membership in the Scrum Alliance, where additional ScrumMaster-only material and information are available.
Participants will receive course materials (not books) at the course. The CSM course was formulated to train and certify ScrumMasters and is used worldwide for ScrumMaster training. In addition, participants should obtain (at their own expense) Agile Project Management with Scrum, by Ken Schwaber, which is required reading for the course. You may also wish to obtain the primary Scrum book, Agile Software Development with SCRUM by Schwaber and Beedle, on which the course is based.
Of course, there will be updated material and training exercises in the course which you cannot get from books. The entire syllabus will be made available upon registering for the course so you can look it over and bring it with you to the sessions.
All CSM courses are taught by Trainers approved by the Scrum Alliance. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.
