Extended 3-Day ScrumMaster Certification Class for Agile Software Project Management
Schedule: May 16-18, 2007 from 9:00am to 5:30pm
Agile methods promise early, continuous and accelerating return on investment for stakeholders and high degrees of job satisfaction for team members. These methods are particularly appropriate for creative projects including program development, materials development, new product development, and IT projects. In this three-day course, you will learn the foundational skills of agile project and process management. Participants who pass this course will receive the Certified ScrumMaster designation.
Agile project management is radically different from traditional project management. Rather than plan, instruct and direct, the agile project manager facilitates, coaches and serves. In the Scrum Agile practice this person is called a ScrumMaster.
In this course participants learn how to guide the development team, a project, or an organization into Agile practice by fostering the adoption of new attitudes, collaborative processes and working to remove institutional barriers. Exercises, case studies, and examples are used to assist participants to develop the knowledge, skills, capabilities and insights needed to make the shift from traditional management practice to Agile practice.
The topics covered in this course are as follows:
- History and Theory
- Process Overview
- Benefits of Agile
- The Learning Circle
- Self-Organizing Teams
- Planning Work
- Iterations and Tasks
- Facilitating and Managing
- Eliminating Waste
- Teaching Others
- Value Stream Mapping
- Reporting and Metrics
Preparation: Approximately one week prior to the course, detailed instructions and course materials will be made available to confirmed attendees.
An individual license to use the Scrum training materials will be issued to those who successfully complete the certification program.
Attendees can earn 24 PMI PDUs from this course.
Mishkin Berteig is a seasoned agile consultant and instructor with 10 years of experience with agile projects. Mishkin is a certified ScrumMaster Trainer and agile coach who has worked with clients such as Charles Schwab, and CapitalOne as well as many smaller clients. Mishkin is a principal contributor to Agile Advice. Mishkin teaches aspects of the Scrum methodology one cannot learn from reading books. Participants focus on becoming effective agile project managers - ScrumMasters - through the sharing of anecdotes, interactive discussion, participatory exercises and creative materials. Agile methodologies are the way of the future and Mishkin Berteig and his able bodied staff and volunteers deliver a very large amount of value in a very short amount of time. His class on agile project management answered many of my questions about Scrum and agile work, but it also raised so many more... This is good, because it means that my knowledge deepened during his class, something that rarely happens in an all day seminar on topics less interesting. - Alex Sirota, consultant to non profits and the public sector.
All CSM courses are taught by Trainers approved by the Scrum Alliance. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.
