In the Workshop, we will in one day to go through Agile Release Planning with a set of real work. As time permits, we will also discuss Release Plan Refactoring. We will also discuss how we take the existing Release Plan (product backlog) and roll into the next Sprint Planning Meeting, and a few other things, as time permits.
We will form into teams of 4-6 usually, and take one person's Vision for a real product for one Team for about 6 months.
This 'Team' will then do Agile Release Planning for that effort. (Again, it is expected that that effort is roughly 4-6 months worth of work for one Team).
The team identifies the Vision, builds the initial Product Backlog, addresses Business Value, estimates effort, considers other factors, and then makes an initial plan for addressing the work. And then we 'finalize' the initial plan and discuss Release Plan Refactoring.
To understand the Workshop better you may wish to read our blog (search for 'release planning') and our book, Joe's Agile Release Planning.
This Agile Release Planning Workshop immediately follows our CSM courses, almost always.
Attendees tell us that this workshop day is extremely valuable as an addition to the Scrum course. We have done these Workshops now for about 2 years, and the feedback from attendees is uniformly positive.
You can also attend the Workshop stand-alone. For example, bring your real team (as much as you can get to come) and we can do you real initial Agile Release Planning for the next 6 month's worth of work. To be honest, we might do it a bit too quickly (timing may be tight), but you will be well-prepared to go back to the office and improve it. And deliver a good product over the next 4-6 months.
Certified Scrum Professional: I am a strong advocate for the notion that 'Scrum is simple, yet Scrum is hard." What I see is that most teams get some benefit from Scrum, but if they played Scrum better, the benefit could by easily 2x-4x greater. I think education (of explicit, but more tacit knowledge) can help greatly in getting better. The CSP (certified scrum professional) path supports that. And, this Workshop gives you 7 SEUs on the way down that CSP path.
