Biography

William Bruce

After 30+ years in product development in a variety roles, I found myself leading a small highly distributed application software team in a start-up company in 2007. The team was comprised of highly skilled “specialist” developers working across eight time zones. The team was struggling with work synchronization as well as project estimation, planning and delivery. The team concluded that an Agile development framework would better serve its needs, and subsequently adopted Scrum as its Agile methodology. Largely self-taught, the team struggled through adoption ... through the resistance, through the stumble-and-learn cycle, and through distributed team logistics. Our persistence paid off as ultimately achieved predictability improvements, quality improvements, responsiveness improvements, and communication improvements. The team also realized cross-skill development and teamwork development. Inspired by the results achieved through Scrum adoption, I became a CSM in 2011 with the intent of pursuing a new opportunity as a ScrumMaster.

I broadened my Agile horizon in 2012 by joining an Embedded Systems (firmware) development organization. As a ScrumMaster in this new environment, I am leading multiple Scrum teams, forming and training new Scrum teams, coaching and mentoring fellow ScrumMasters, and assessing and supporting Scrum adoption at an organizational level.
