Biography

My name is Rachel Martz and I have been agile for nine years. Prior to my personal transformation, I spent ten years on waterfall teams in QC, QA and BA roles. I moved up the ranks of responsibility into test and project management. Eventually, I started setting up test departments and traditional PMOs. It was my firsthand experience with the frustrations and limitations of waterfall that led me to seek alternative approaches. My first informal attempt at executing agile and Scrum principles resulted in immediate improvements in quality and timeline management. This was my turning point. Since then I have dedicated the last 10 years to helping organizations discover how they can benefit from agile at the team and program levels. My experience spans all sizes of companies from large to start-up and a variety of industries including financial services, life/annuity/auto insurance, pharmaceutical, laboratory testing and auto sales business intelligence. I begin every engagement collaborating with leadership and engaging with stakeholders to understand the current state, need, and business goals. I know success relies heavily on approaches that are possible, sustainable and make sense within the culture while exceeding expectations. I draw on best practices from Lean, Scrum (Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org), Lean Startup, Kanban, XP and others as I am always learning new things. I am experienced coaching teams who are co-located, distributed, off-shore and any combination. My style is very hands on and I prefer to show how to work agile while building real products versus just telling.
