Initial start with a brief career as an academic, doing legal research, with a masters of criminology. An early career switch got me into the world of IT.
After some years as a business analyst in the airline industry, co-founded a consultancy and software company: Fenestrae (www.fenestrae.com).
During that time, close to 25 years in fact, I was in the early years, engaged in consulting work with major customers in the Netherlands in integration and standardization projects. During these years various black spots in the customer application infrastructures were identified. These led to us start developing enterprise class communication (gateway) software products. With great succes. Fenestrae, became a leading provider of unified messaging (fax server software) and mobility software products (sms and mms) that help organizations optimize their communications with customers, partners and mobile employees. With products like Fenestrae Communication Server, Fenestrae Faxination Server and the Fenestrae Mobile Data Server suite that were distributed through 200+ resellers. Fenestrae is a Microsoft Gold Partner, and has customers in financial services, government, healthcare and many other industries. Innovations and industry changes led us into (VOIP and FOIP) technologies and then to a migration to offering document management functionalities as a cloud solution.
This was the point where we decided to transform the software development to an agile unit using scrum. XP was already an standard pratice, but we were looking more and better team work and software quality, with regular incremental releases.
Currently, having kickstarted these developments in Fenestrae, I am persuing a career as a motivator, advisor, advocate and coach for Scrum as not only an essential framework for software development, but also as an inspiration to the rest of the organization to increase their total creative and productive output in attaining their goal of delighting the customer. Teamwork, true delegated responsibility, and face to face human interaction will lead to more and better things.
