Phil offers a wealth of experience and a passion for excellence. As a consultant specializing in project management and business analysis, he has been helping clients in Canada, the US and abroad to improve the way they deliver IT systems since 1992.
Phil has worked with project teams in a variety of industries, (insurance, pharmaceuticals, finance, government), in a variety of organization sizes and cultures (small entrepreneurial start-ups, mid-size, and globally distributed multi-nationals) and using a variety of System Development Life Cycles (SDLC’s), including Waterfall, Iterative and Agile.
As a project management professional, Phil’s success has come from his ability to energize a team, and to lead by example, especially when the team is confronted with new techniques and methods. He advocates a disciplined approach, while staying flexible and adaptable. Project charters, planning, estimating, risk management and dealing with issues are his strong points.
He “wrote the book” on the Software Development Lifecycle for two organizations, and trained and coached project teams and executives about project management, use cases, object modelling and iterative development.
He helped one organization to establish an effective working relationship with an offshore CMMI-Level 5 developer.
Phil developed a software development risk management framework for a prominent financial services organization in the US, and coached about 30 project teams to implement it successfully.
As a business analyst professional, Phil’s expertise is both broad and deep: feasibility studies, business case development, facilitating requirements workshops, use-case modelling, business process modelling and requirements management.
An accomplished facilitator, Phil helps project teams launch their projects by working closely with project managers, analysts, subject matter experts, developers and testers to develop initial deliverables and establish the project culture.
Phil holds a Secret security clearance in Canada.
