I started in Agile with XP 15 years ago. The second the Agile Manifesto came out, I went to my CTO and told him that this was what we were trying to do. When Scrum became a dominant methodology, we adopted that, thus launching my career in Scrum. I was a ScrumMaster for 3 years before becoming a Scrum Coach, a role I've had ever since (I do occasionally take ScrumMaster positions to keep my skills fresh). I have worked predominately in startups and international consulting positions, taking regular full time positions when interesting opportunities come along.
Currently, I work as a Scrum Coach for an organization of approximately 3,000 technologists inside of a large company, Optum, which is a subsidiary of United Healthcare (#15 on the Fortune 500). My job, as part of a team of three, is to provide internal training as well as coaching for both teams and individuals. I manage our ScrumMaster Support and Enrichment Program, offering services to over 65 ScrumMasters. I also develop all of our training materials, including partnering with another organization to produce training for a large scope Agile initiative based on SAFe, Scrum and Kanban.
As for the rest of my life, I am an avid painter, having participated in a couple shows. I am also a fanitical reader, and regularly plow through 1-2 books a week. I have 3 large dogs and 2 cats with my wonderful partner.
Optum, Scrum Coach
December 2012 - Present, Atlanta, GA, US
I was originally hired as a ScrumMaster and Scrum Coach to start a new Scrum Program within a large software engineering program. By the end of my tenure with that group, I had brought up 8 teams (running all of them for at least 3 months and 5 of them long term) in Scrum and was loaned out to a second organization to remodel an existing non-functional group of 3 teams. That restructuring was successful.
