John R. Witherspoon, founder and CEO of Building Systems Design, Inc (BSD) grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy working as a Russian language translator and analyst. He studied architecture and computer science at the Georgia Tech, earning a BS degree in 1975. Mr. Witherspoon joined Hanscomb Associates, Inc. to work on a number of cost systems development contracts and subsequently became Vice President of Systems Development for Hanscomb. Mr. Witherspoon founded BSD in 1983 where he developed and licensed a number of PC-based estimating systems, including MCACES, to the Corps of Engineers, the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy among others.
Over the years Mr. Witherspoon managed, and continues to manage, software development for BSD’s entire product line, including SpecLink+, AGC DocuBuilder, PerSpective, CostLink/AE, SpecLink-E, LinkMan-E and other products. The flagship SpecLink software engine comprises an innovative, proprietary, database-based combination of word processing software and intelligently linked master text that greatly facilitates production of high-quality construction specifications in a highly productive environment.
