Biography

Elton Smith began using Scrum in 1995 after attending the OOPSLA conference in Austin Texas.  Elton enjoys reading, songwriting, computer programming and working with people from diverse cultures.  Elton's Agile related work experience:

Rent-A-Center, Plano Texas (May 2014 to Present)

  • Role: Agile Coach
  • Accomplishments:
    • Implemented SAFe.
    • Coached 12+ teams.
    • Administered AgileCraft Agile tool for Rent-A-Center.
    • Worked with managers, EMPO office and executives on Agile transformation.

AT&T, Dallas Texas (December 2013 to January 2014)

  • Role: Agile Coach
  • Accomplishments:
    • Agile Coach for collocated teams redesigning AT&T flagship business eCommerce website.
    • Acted as Product Owner when PO left for an extended period.
    • Trained Product Owner and team on use of Rally.
    • Worked with management on Agile transformation and planning organizational expansion.

    • Scrum Master for teams in Dallas and Austin.  Worked closely with teams on sprint planning, daily activities, demonstrations and retrospectives.  Coached teams on Agile principles and Scrum best practices.  Removed impediments so teams could concentrate on sprint commitments. 
    • Used Rally Agile project management tool.  Used Rally Portfolio Management to assist Product Owners in communication with stakeholders.

  • Agile Coach for Shell Voyager development project in Palo Alto California and Bangalore India.
  • Scrum Master for a team making major enhancements to a .NET/SQL Server based web application facilitating selection of 7-Eleven store sites.  Developed in .Net (C#) and SQL Server.
  • Scrum Master for multiple development teams at FedEx Office implementing enhancements to a Java/Oracle/Flex based eCommerce system.

In 1995, our team attended the OOPSLA 95 conference in Austin (October 15-21) and heard presentations by Ken Schwaber. We returned to Dallas and used SCRUM on a semiconductor factory reengineering project for approximately 8 months. I was part of the SCRUM team during this project.
