Darren Yeates is a highly experienced Development Manager and Agile coach having delivered multiple multi-million pound projects and Agile organisational change in organisations such as BAE Systems, McLaren and Thales over the past 20 years. Darren has extensive experience of building development teams and environments where continuous improvement of the development process is the focus and where everyone’s common goal is to deliver outstanding software as fast as possible _while having fun_. Leading via coaching and mentoring, he is passionate about communication, group dynamics and coaching, and is not afraid to raise issues and drive change to remove impediments from his development teams and continuously improve organisational behaviour. He works with, recruits and leads world-class teams of engineers who love what they do and his current role as Head of Agile for BAE Systems means that he is responsible for Agile for a company of over 2000+ engineers worldwide. With a passion for technology, Darren is still a software engineer at heart. This brings great benefit when managing software development teams – he knows what they are going through as he has been there and done that. Darren keeps technical by developing both iOS and Android apps. Javascript and React Native are his current tools. Darren is a nationally qualified Search Dog Handler for Lowland Rescue and together with his dog Millie, assist the emergency services to locate missing and vulnerable people. They are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. Chartered IT Professional with the British Computer Society.

McLaren Applied Technologies, Software Team Leader

During my time at McLaren Applied Technologies, I was team lead for the Off-car systems team. Responsible for existing and future telemetry and data analysis systems for Formula One, NASCAR, IndyCar and emerging markets such as medical, aerospace and trains. This involved leading a team of 24 on the Windows development stack, building thick .NET clients, middleware and simulation services and high-speed data storage. The role involved support for the existing in-field applications alongside the development of the multi-million pound next-generation Advanced Telemetry Linked Acquisition System (ATLAS). Working in a highly Agile (Scrum) environment, often to extremely tight timescales and with very high expectations.
