Dylan van Iersel
Dylan is originally trained in Cognitive Science and Engineering (later renamed to Artificial Intelligence) at the University of Groningen. He started his career in R&D on topics like business-to-business integration, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), networking and security. He then gradually moved to designing and implementing Java/J2EE systems, improving development processes and designing and implementing a software development factory based on agile principles. For a number of years, Dylan was the Lead Architect with Port Infolink (renamed to Portbase), responsible for the overall architecture and technical vision of the Rotterdam harbor Port Community System.
In the most recent projects, Dylan fulfilled the role of Lead Architect, Scrum Master (project leader / development manager) and Delivery Lead, leading, coaching and supporting cross-functional and international teams of professionals of Java/J2EE, Semantic Web and Tridion CMS technologies. Dylan introduced the Scrum development management framework and guided its “implementation”. In addition, with Wolters-Kluwer, Dylan was responsible for defining the overall architecture and design of the “Content Warehouse, a large scale system that will manage and provide all content and content metadata for all Wolters-Kluwer companies and products in the area of Legal, Tax & Regulatory. With KLM, Dylan was responsible for a number of succesful projects and implementations.
Dylan specializes in the architecture and development of large scale and complex systems and in applying modern architectural styles. In addition, he focuses on the development processes of said systems using agile and lean development methods in combination with a pragmatic approach to architecture. Dylan is and has been since a long time, a strong proponent and user of open source technology.
Finally, Dylan is co-founder and board-member of IASA Netherlands. IASA stands for International Association of Software Architects and is a worldwide non-profit organisation that focuses on the advancement of the architecture profession through education and certification programmes. Worked with a variety of teams on a variety of projects, mostly on Java/JEE technology and content management. Delivered KLM's social media implementation, a booking planner, the online timetable, etc.
Wolters-Kluwer, Scrum Master / Lead Architect
January 2008 - June 2009, Alphen a/d Rijn, Netherlands
Introduced Scrum to the company and guided its initial adoption. Worked with a team of international experts on Java/JEE and semantic web technology to execute a R&D project and deliver a prototype semantic publishing tool.
