As part of the Quality Assurance/Test department, I have been able to serve in a variety of roles. I have been a Software Tester, focusing on functional and regression testing. I have also been a Business Tester, which allowed me to be closely tied to the Requirements (Product Management) team and focus more heavily on customer-scenario based tests. This role allowed me to be highly involved in integration testing in a very complex application, which is where the greatest risk is when code is changed. I spent several years working on a Sustaining/Maintenance release team where the focus was fixing specific customer issues and turning over a release in a 2-week time frame. As the tester for this group, it was critical to determine why the defect escaped and then take actions to ensure it did not happen again. I have also served as a Test Architect. This role focused on process improvements within the Test organization, coordinating with the Automation team to set priorities for test cases, planning and analyzing the work needed per release, and making decisions based on risk. The role was a way to link business testing, new feature testing, regression testing, and automation and try to streamline the way things were done.
