Brent LaMotte: Over the last five plus years, I've been fortunate enough to be a ScrumMaster at a startup in the gaming industry that had expodential growth, a Fortune 500 environment for the premier brand for coffee, and the leader in providing travel and expense management services. In all three of these circumstances, Scrum has given me the framework to mentor, guide and grow teams.
I have used Scrum, Kanban, with dabbling in Lean as a ScrumMaster. I have championed the use of Agile methodologies - and I won't go back to the 'old ways' of getting projects completed. I've taken ideas learned through great sessions at Global Gatherings that I use in every sprint: I use kaizen in my retrospectives when I have the team discuss what they want to try in the next sprint; I was so excited to integrate Kanban into one team after returning from a gathering because it was the perfect solution to help that team be successful.
I live for retrospectives - I think it's the best way to get issues out in the open and get to solutions for issues the team may have. I've grown to appreciate tight sprint planning meetings as much as a tight standup. I want my Product Owners to feel successful because they've written solid stories with good acceptance criteria and I want my teams to ship quality product in a sprint. This framework allows me to help the team grow more cohesive when they're using Scrum as a lever to get work done.
