Denver, CO,— SCRUM ALLIANCE®, the largest, most established and influential professional membership organization and certifying body in the Agile community, today announced plans to honor and support the community of women in Agile and business with a breakfast on Tuesday, April 11, at the Global Scrum Gathering® in San Diego.

The event will feature a keynote address from Scrum Alliance Interim CEO Lisa W. Hershman, focusing on the unique obstacles and opportunities women face in STEM and corporate fields. Hershman will also join Global Gathering program advisors Anu Smalley and Kate Megaw, both Certified Scrum Trainers, for a panel to allow attendees to ask questions pertinent to their personal experiences executing Scrum in their workplaces.

“Scrum practices are about creating interactive workplaces with positive, joyful work dynamics,” Hershman said. “Women can and are playing a key role in that implementation, and the Women in Agile breakfast will be a great opportunity for women to network, share stories, and learn from one another.”

Hershman has extensive corporate management experience as a CEO at Hammer and Company; coauthor with Michael Hammer on Faster, Cheaper, Better, The 9 Levers for Transforming How Work Gets Done; and founder of The DeNovo Group. She also served as the chairwoman of Avnet’s Executive Women’s Forum, as National Secretary of the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation (BPW USA), and as a commissioner on the Indiana Commission for Women.

Scrum users are growing rapidly in fields outside of information technology and software, and the group of women will represent the diverse group of agilists in all kinds of industries and fields.

“We’re excited to have Lisa as a voice of empowerment for women in corporate fields using Agile and Scrum,” said Smalley. “This is an important opportunity for women to share experiences and connect with each other.”

The San Diego event is the first of three Global Scrum Gatherings in 2017. Global Gatherings are held each year in the United States, Europe, and Asia. To learn more about future Global and Regional Gatherings, please visit www.scrumalliance.org.
