Certification
Scrum Certification
The current Scrum Certification program has three levels of mastery: graduate, practitioner, and guide. You can read an article about the Scrum certification process and fees here.
Graduate
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), achieved through training and exercise.
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), achieved through training and exercise .
Practitioner
- Certified Scrum Practitioner is only achieved through demonstrated real-life success with Scrum on one or more projects.
Guide
When Scrum was first introduced, the only available training was in the form of articles, presentations, and books. People were able to understand the iterative nature of Scrum through reading, but missed the empirical, incremental, self-managing, and cross-functional aspects that provide the control and productivity necessary for a successful implementation. Projects failed. People got discouraged. Something needed to change.
In response, the Scrum Alliance created its Scrum certification program. It is important to understand that true mastery of Scrum takes time and experience. Many are confused by the title ScrumMaster, as if a Certified ScrumMaster is someone who the Scrum Alliance has deemed to have mastered the Scrum process. On the contrary, the term ScrumMaster defines a role on the Scrum team in the same way that Product Owner is a role on the Scrum team. By certifying someone as a ScrumMaster, the Scrum Alliance is confirming that the person has had training that will help him or her take on the role of a ScrumMaster.
Upcoming Courses
All courses listed on this website are taught by Certified Scrum Trainers (CST). Only those who have attended a CST-taught class are recognized as CSMs.
The Scrum Alliance is pleased to provide the definitive list of all publicly offered Certified Scrum Master courses. ScrumAlliance.org maintains the definitive list of all recognized CSM classes. If a class is not listed here it is neither a certification class nor is it in any way affiliated with the Scrum Alliance or a Certified Scrum Trainer.
If you would like to register or obtain further information for an individual course, please contact the Certified Scrum Trainer listed for that class by clicking on the link provided. Other than the details provided in the listings, the Scrum Alliance does not have further details for individual courses or the ability to register attendees for those courses.
