Joya’s BIO
System Integrator motivated by self pride, and recognition for exceeding stakeholder’s expectations. My technical experience has grown over the past twelve years from taking on more and more challenging projects, networking, and furthering my technical skills/education. I presently hold the following active professional certificates PMP, CSM, and CPA.
My career started out in public accounting. I moved from several years with the "Big Six" in a Management Consultant’s role into the world of technology as a System Integrator with Culpeper Consulting on Wallstreet, NY. When I started, I took two steps back to the level of Senior Consultant and was promoted up through the ranks until my resignation. During the later part of my tenure with the firm as Associate Partner, I opened, and staffed their London (UK) office, and spent over a year living, and working abroad (residence in London, then temporarily in Germany, and Luxembourg), initiated and directed the Y2k efforts for the firm along with one of co-executives. When I returned to the states I started my own business, and focused on Client Server / Oracle application environments.
After two years, I was approached by Itochu International (the largest Japanese Trading Company in the World; partners included Computer Associates, Reuters, and Enterasys). I was offered and accepted a permanent position with their subsidiary, Itochu Technology as Business Process Owner for their new Financial Vertical Division. I implemented a very successful business plan for T+1 STP solutions, brought two new partner firms, staffed a sales, and project management team, and began implementing the plan which included on boarding 400+ broker dealers. Just one week prior to the WTC Disaster, I was invited to dinner by the owners to discuss my taking over the US American Division of the company while my direct report was to take over the International Japanese Division. We were devastated by the disaster with the loss of business, and several partner employees. I was evacuated, relocated out of the state, and took a two year sabbatical. During that time I received my PMP Certification.
Since then I’ve been working as an independent contractor within various industries, progressively taking on more and more Agile development projects. Three projects in particular fit into the world of Agile / Scrum:
Northstar Technologies, Alpharetta, Ga. On this project Agile/Scrum frameworks were used to develop a State of the Art, browser based, fully integrated private club ERP system using a SQL database. Teams were located in Alpharetta, Georgia, and Karachi which can present many challenges for the use of SCRUM. I was approached by the former CEO to function as Product Owner, to address the backlog of technical issues, add them onto the product backlog, prioritize stories and release plan, and deploy new modules/features more efficiently. I later moved into a Sales Directors role to assist the new CEO/Owner in expanding the customer base with our newly released full featured product set.
Tournease, Lakeland, Florida I played the role of Product Owner, and was trained by consultants from Ponder Research. We used a third party development firm, Agile Thought, for architecture and development. There were two teams: developers located in Tampa, and design/management/golf SME’s/marketing team located in Lakeland. Both teams were self organizing, and collocated in an open space. MS project combined with excel was used for reporting progress. I collaborated with the CTO, and Project Lead from Agile Thought to prioritize stories in the product backlog, determine velocity, and release dates. Then worked with the CEO and Sales Director on website content, and copy. In order to ensure that both products (application and sales demo) were meeting their needs, demos were held every two weeks.
Marriott Vacation Club, Orlando, Florida I was the fourth and final project manager on this project to develop an electronic payment system for escrow payments on timeshare properties. The architectural design included a fat client using a waterfall approach to development, and QA testing. Shortly after my arrival we went through a design change to thin client, and adopted Agile development frameworks in order to bring construction, and QA testing to completion faster.
