Renato Mancuso graduated in Molecular Biology, summa cum laude, in 1994, at the University of Palermo, Italy, but his interests, already at that time, had been shifting more and more toward information systems and software development.

In 1996, having obtained a fellowship by EMBL, an international organization with headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, Renato relocated to UK to study bioinformatics and information systems development at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) of Cambridge.

Between June 2000 and May 2001 Renato was in Rome, working for Smarten, a private company developing products for telecom companies.

From June 2001 to June 2004 Renato held the position of Senior Software Engineer at the European Bioinformatics Institute (Cambridge, UK), where he worked on the development of the enterprise information systems supporting the genomics and protein databanks produced by the Institute.

After finishing his contract with EBI, Renato relocated back to Italy. From November 2004 until August 2007 Renato held the position of Contract Lecturer in Bioinformatics at the University of Palermo, Italy.

In February 2005 Renato became a certified ScrumMaster.

In August 2007, having won second place at the national selections, Renato moved to Rome, to work for the Italian Central Bank (Banca d’Italia) as a Requirements Analyst in the Enterprise Applications Division. Some of his latest duties have been planning for new developments, gathering and analysing requirements, preparing project proposals, and conducting business meetings.

Renato is a member of ACCU (http://www.accu.org) since 2001, and member of ACM, IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society since 2005.
