I am a project and program manager in the software industry.
Scrum and agile and their underlying approach to collaboration and self-organizing teams are fascinating to me. Maybe it's because I worked for 13 years in Japan and realized that many aspects of this leaderless self-organizing philosophy underlay many of the business and social activities that I experienced there. The process at a Tokyo online game company I worked at seemed like total chaos, but, upon reflection, was a quick-prototyping model where consensus eventually coalesced into shippable product. Events like camping trips and motorcycle tours also taught me how people would find a role for themselves by observing what others were doing and instinctively doing whatever was needed, often without much verbal communication.
