Pat Guariglia is a Project Manager, PMP, CSP and CSM (Certified Scrum Practitioner and Certified Scrum Master). Pat has been leading information technology projects for the last eight years. He started his IT project management career at General Electric Power Systems and currently consults for COMSYS IT Partners.

Currently Pat is on an assignment with a New York State Agency in Albany, NY. At this Agency, Pat manages a multi-million dollar program of three projects where he applies the use of agile and scrum. The team consists of 12 to 16 technical staff and is divided into overlapping agile teams. In 2008, one of the projects Pat managed was awarded the New York State Forum’s Best Practices Award for Outstanding Management.

Pat was instrumental in bringing agile and scrum project management and development methodologies to this NY Agency through the successful implementation of his scrum program. At the start of the New York program, Pat and the project team were asked to develop a project methodology to be used to address the Department’s need for delivering critical business functionality for the project. He implemented a customized scrum/agile methodology, which was used successfully to meet critical business deadlines, deliver just-in-time functionality, reduce errors, and minimize rework. The Information Technology Division is currently using some of the project team’s agile practices in other information technology projects.

Over the last couple of years, Pat has spoken at seminars and events in Albany, New York City and New Jersey about the practical use of scrum and agile and its use in state government. He contributes articles to the ScrumAlliance.org web site, is the creator of elegantagile.com and is an active member of several regional agile user groups.
