Stephen Beagle is a Technical Project Manager with Cerner Corporation, the leading U.S. supplier of healthcare information technology (HIT) solutions. Taking the long route to managing software development projects, his background and education are in printing and graphic design. In 1997 he accepted a software developer position with Cerner and went on to work in the areas of Patient Care, Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Documentation Management, Discern Explorer (CCL) and Automated Testing solutions development.
Stephen became Project Manager for the Automated Testing effort at Cerner in 2007, and soon after discovered the benefits of Scrum. Using the Scrum framework, his team was able to develop a new solution that provided value for users within 8 months; whereas his waterfall project plan had projected 12 months until initial use.
Seeing the benefits of Scrum firsthand, Stephen has become an advocate for the framework and has encouraged others within his organization to adopt the practice. He has also participated in high-level planning to advance agile development practices throughout the company, and has been teaching Scrum to interested teams through formal classes and informal coaching.
