Michael Hamman is dedicated to the possibility that the workplace be a site for personal, organizational, and social transformation. Through the cultivation of lightweight processes, reflective practice, and meaningful human interaction, Michael Hamman helps companies uncover their potential for innovation, agility, and high performance.
A Certified Scrum Master since 2003, Michael has, for the last five+ years, facilitated numerous agile projects from inception to delivery. He also has trained and coached over 70 Certified Scrum Masters. From 2004 through 2005, he facilitated and coached a large, highly successful, Agile/Lean adoption initiative at Capital One. The success of this adoption led to one of the largest corporate Scrum adoptions in the U.S.
Since then, Michael has become well known in the Agile community for bringing a holistic perspective to the Agile adoption process. His training and education in management coaching, facilitation, and organizational development is instrumental to his effectiveness as an Agile coach and trainer. His 15 years’ leading and coaching highly effective teams, of all kinds, underscores his success with Scrum teams, and in his training and development of Scrum Masters. Managers and performers alike find that Michael is able to consistently create learning environments in which people find themselves able to move beyond personal and institutional limitations and to create for themselves deep, transformative learning.
In addition to his leadership, facilitation and organizational experience and training, Michael was for 14 years a developer. During his latter years as a developer and development manager, he trained his teams in XP and agile engineering practices, including refactoring, test-driven development, emergent software design, continuous integration, and pair-programming. During these years, he helped deliver a number of highly successful software projects.
Besides his Agile training and consulting practice, Michael is also a Ph.D. student in Human and Organizational Development at Fielding Graduate University, where he is researching adaptive organization, integrative leadership, and human transformation. This research profoundly deepens the insight and perspective he brings to his Agile consulting work with companies.
Michael’s clients have included Capital One, Dell Computer, Liberty Mutual, CNBC, OJC Technologies, Open Wave, JDA Software, Vignette, Netspend, National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Coordinated Research Laboratory, and Beckman Institute.
