Jim Young is the senior program manager of SAIC’s Public Health sector in the state of Georgia with additional public sector responsibilities. He is responsible for account management and oversight of all activities within this segment. A well-respected senior strategist, Young has more than 20 years of leadership expertise in the technology services industries. Young architected SAIC’s Public Health Preparedness segment, creating strategic and tactical approaches to public health business. Currently serving as senior program manager over the CDC Preparedness contract, Young manages three data centers, two disaster recovery centers, digital certificate issuance for 10,000 CDC employees world-wide, manages 83 mission critical CDC application which track diseases, outbreaks, and hazardous substances on a global backdrop. Current activities include managing the CDC R&D lab for informatics looking at current technilogies in the GRID and digital imaging integration.
Prior to joining SAIC, Young served as Director of Information Technology, Department of Health and Human Services, State of Georgia and overseeing initiatives for the $2.3 billion government and social services organization. Day-to-day activities enjoined direct operations of Technology solutions encompassing 16,500 desktop units, 1,100 local area networks with frame relay connectivity to statewide backbone mainframe. Managing client/server systems, web-based applications and data transfer. Monitoring $80 million operating budget to maintain hardware, software, telecommunications, data services, help desk, project management office, processing, outsourcing and personnel. Before the State of Georgia, Young served as Regional Manager for Thomson Software, International. He joined Thomson in 1990 as the Regional Manager of the Professional Services Consulting division. He was instrumental in building the company’s southeastern service delivery capability for Thomson’s Nomad 4GL-centric enterprise solutions. Young’s organization generated 55 percent of the company’s total professional service revenue.
Prior to Thomson, Young served from 1980-1989 as Senior Project Manager with Lockheed-Martin Corporation. Young was lead architect and developer in the bid and proposal consolidation of 17 Lockheed-Martin businesses into a single win-loss evaluation system.
Young received a Master of Science in Information Technology from Mercer University and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kennesaw State University graduating cum laude. He currently serves as part-time Adjunct Professor at Mercer University Masters program.
