Debbie’s career in software development began at IBM, as a technical writer, working on software development projects for the healthcare, distribution and manufacturing industries. She also spent several years in IBM Global Services Marketing Communications where she managed the development and distribution of marketing materials in support of global product announcements. In this capacity, Debbie managed a team of writers in the U.S. and coordinated efforts around the globe. Her writing skills gradually took her into the Quality arena where she became a certified ISO 9000 Internal Auditor. Over time, her responsibilities included leading SEI CMM assessments—one that achieved Level 2 for IBM’s Global Application Development organization and one that achieved CMM Level 3 for the purpose of bidding on a $200 Million contract with the Internal Revenue Service. In 1999, Debbie left IBM to join an Atlanta-based consulting firm to serve as the Quality Assurance Manager at Roche Diagnostics. Managing two test teams and developing processes for projects that included the development of software/firmware/hardware for diabetes testing devices and hospital information systems, Debbie was able to ensure both FDA and ISO 9000 compliance. Her next position, as the Change Manager for a company that produces software for nuclear plants, called for managing change across teams located in Atlanta, Canada and India and for becoming an expert with the Rational suite of tools—especially ClearQuest and ClearCase. In 2001, Debbie joined Rollins Inc., with an information technology organization of approximately 150 individuals that included Help Desk, Telecommunications, Networking, Computer Operations, Desktop Support, Applications Development and Software Testing. During her first year there, Rollins purchased two additional companies—one in New Jersey and one in Canada. As the Quality Assurance Manager for all three companies, Debbie lead and managed the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) efforts, including assessing risks, identifying and documenting relevant controls, evaluating the effectiveness of existing controls over financial transactions, reporting audit results, identifying gaps and implementing solutions. Debbie also performed SOX testing and managed external audits of application, security and general controls. External auditors found the organizations to be fully compliant.
