In my current job as Ocean Framework manager, I work with a team of incredible software architects and engineers to deliver the open software development framework that provides a fast moving unified petrotechnical desktop environment.
Our focus is improving and expanding the foundation (core & services) and Ocean for Petrel.
Within Schlumberger my goal and challenge is to lead with innovation. This involves building and enabling high impact teams, discovering new methods and technologies (even if they fail at first!), and communicating new and powerful visions.
To date, my favorite example of this was with the Trident project at WesternGeco. Here I aided the assembly of a team of strong willed architects to create a vision that brought our disparate developments together and forged an roadmap forward to an interactive Geophysical Desktop. The team then continued with early prototypes and deliverables and now involves several teams that are working towards the end result on the roadmap.
And now I am faced with bigger challenges in the Ocean framework team, whose very existence relies on the principles of openness and the potential of innovation that is possible because of it.
To me life is all about the experience of culture. Accordingly my family and I remain mobile to enjoy the possibilities that Schlumberger offers in its international mix of people and locations. We are currently living in Oslo and working on seeing and understanding more of our world.
While I maintain that I can still code (Java, Java Swing, C#, C++, C ...), my strengths now lie in management of diverse, multi-site international teams.
