The world of IT has come into my life naturally, starting over 15 years ago. I started writing and teaching simple web design and html while moonlighting as a curriculum designer for technology companies in Silicon Valley. Before long, I got sucked into the industry fulltime, building a solid career in e-learning for software and IT companies.
Here is my path:
Late 1990's - Cisco Systems (e-learning Program Manager)
Turn of the millennium - Avaya (e-learning consultant)
Recruited into Microsoft, moved to Redmond!
2001-2006 - Microsoft (e-learning Development Manager)
2006-2007 - MSNBC.com, Accenture and Microsoft (Consultant)
2007 - Moved to Sunny Arizona!
Current - AAA Northern California in Glendale, AZ (Senior IT Learning Solution Consultant)
I have developed training for IT employees for everything from VoIP to BizTalk and IIS to Microsoft Consulting Practices to Technical Risk Assessments. Building e-learning solutions is like building a regular software application, but with technical writing and instructional design. Finding the right development framework is critical when clients expect a quick but quality product. Often, we are building with much ambiguity since the product we are training on is still in development. This lends itself well to SCRUM. My current organization is moving from a waterfall to an agile / RUP framework. I will be developing training solutions to help them move into this new paradigm.
I look forward to applying this framework to my learning solution as I train our employees on SCRUM. That will be an interesting experience!
