Michael Podvinec is currently Head of Research IT at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.

As a molecular biologist, he has researched the way drugs affect gene expression in our body for several years.  Combining his passion for biomedical research and his interest for computer science, he then was a post-doctoral fellow in bioinformatics, working on the discovery of new drugs against tropical diseases using computational methods. Today, he oscillates between the worlds of experimental biology and bioinformatics and tries to bring the two closer together.

Michael has 10 years of experience in life science research and has been a CSM since 2007. He uses Scrum as a non-intrusive set of tools and rules for academic research and software development teams for two reasons: First, improving the transparency and information culture of interdisciplinary research projects. Second, bringing to daylight the deep structure of the project and the team and triggering self-organization.
