Frank Villarreal - Observation leads us to theories and abstractions, however, real life demands that we get things done and succeed. That is why I study and practice project management. It provides the theories and tools but ultimately it is how effective it can be used to complete projects that decides its success.
Scrum and agile development deals with the real project constructs and business dynamics. All of us are aware and have been frustrated by scope creep and the over reach expected of a project manager. Yet because of the long lead times, the extensive documentation, and tough contract negotiations with our users all we could do was to renegotiate or live up to the letter of the negotiated contract. Scrum centralizes the team and uses short cycles of: sprints, review, improve and deliver to the user while leaving the door open for changes and co-operation from all stake holders, hence dealing more effectively with business dynamics and PM constructs.
