The graduate level of certification (Certified ScrumMaster/Certified Scrum Product Owner) is concerned with helping people change their habits and perceptions of how best to work. This is accomplished in an experiential classroom setting.
To become a CSM or CSPO, attend and graduate from an upcoming course. Your instructor will certify that you have been taught what you need to know to fulfil the role of a ScrumMaster or Scrum Product Owner. He or she will pay your first year $50 Scrum Alliance membership fee and submit your name for inclusion in membership on or site.
To remain a member of the Scrum Alliance, you will need to renew your membership and pay a $50 fee each year. Your certifcation does not need to be renewed.
The purpose of both the CSM and CSPO programs is to bridge the gap between this knowledge and the paradigm shift of managing a project using Scrum. Students are expected to come to a Scrum training class with a working knowledge of the mechanics and rules of Scrum. Through exercises and peer discussions, attendees realize how much they rely on habits that lower productivity, quality, and return on investment. They also get to experience first-hand how a change to Scrum practices works and feels. The end of the course is only the beginning of their journey to true mastery. Time and hands-on experience will further their education.
