Welcome to a new opportunity to change the world of work! Are you tired of traditional conferences with a mostly one-way presentation approach from the experts? Or of an open-space event in which you just scratch the surface of an important topic but don't ever get a chance to fully work through the new ideas? Are you an agile zealot who can't stop exposing organizational impediments or better ways for teams to collaborate? If so, this retreat may be just the thing you are looking for.

The Scrum Alliance is piloting a new concept in the agile space -- Scrum Coaching Retreat 2011 to be held December 7-9, 2011 in Boulder, CO. Sponsored and organized by the Certified Scrum Coaching program, we are creating a new enviroment in which to improve our organizational environments. And the best way we know how to do that is to use Scrum. So that is exactly what we plan to do at this retreat - form Scrum teams and work in short sprints to accomplish some real challenging coaching and other agile organizational challenges.

You can expect this coaching retreat is different from any other agile event that you have attended. Unlike an agile coaching camp or Scrum Gathering where topics are covered quickly, this retreat will focus on getting real work accomplished through deep and focused working sessions. Through this work, you will have an opportunity to deeply engage and collaborate with other peer coaches and mentors. We are using this first retreat is a pilot program from which we will be looking to spawn a number of Scrum Coaching Retreats in 2012 across the globe. Thus, you can be at the forefront of a new wave of getting real work done!

We are looking for experienced, knowledgable, diverse, open-minded, and inquisitive agile mentors who are consultants or internal organizational change agents focused on improving organizational agility.

Register now for this event. The cost to attend the retreat is $350 for Scrum Alliance Members and $450 for non-members. If you have a specific question about this retreat or would like to help out with it, please contact Pete Behrens.

FAQs:

What is a Scrum Coaching Retreat?

This coaching retreat is different from any other that you have attended. Unlike an agile coaching camp or Scrum Gathering where topics are quick and shallow, this retreat will focus on getting real work accomplished through deep and focused working sessions. Through this work, you will have an opportunity to deeply engage and collaborate with other peer coaches and mentors. This first retreat is a piiot program from which we will be looking to spawn a number of Scrum Coaching Retreats in 2012 across the globe.

How does the Scrum Coaching Retreat Work?

This conference will be run using Scrum - forming teams and working in short focused sprints. One Wednesday evening we will identify a set of coaching goals from which we want to build a work product or improve our skills. We will then form Scrum teams on a subset of these topics and work intense in short sprints. In each sprint, teams will plan, execute, review and retrospect their work. We will also sprinkle in a key learning topic in the morning and a quick lightning sharing.

Who is this retreat for?

The Scrum Coaching Retreat is for any agile mentor who either works as an external consultant or internal advocate in developing and maturing agile organizations. It is sponsored by the Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Coaching (CSC) Program.

Do I need to be a Certified Scrum Coach?

No. The Scrum Coaching Retreat is for any agile mentor who either works as an external consultant or internal advocate in developing and maturing agile organizations. It is sponsored by the Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Coaching (CSC) Program, but you do not have to be a Scrum Alliance member or certified to attend, however, there are discounts available if you are.

What are the topics that will be focused on?

The specific working topics will be discussed prior to and selected at the outset of the conference. All attendees will have the ability to suggest and vote on topics. To identify the topics, we will form teams around the proposed topics and determine if there is enough interest in each topic.

How many will be attending this event?

Given that this program is a pilot program and our focus on creating deep-dive sessions and getting real work done across multiple teams, we are capping the attendence to 75 coaches.
