Join with Scrum community members at the wonderful GangPlank HQ in Phoenix as we explore the potential of Scrum beyond the realm of software development. This two-day Open Space event, facilitated by Suzanne Daigle will be an interactive, chaotic collaboration between passionate individuals seeking to transform the world of work. Come and discover the true potential of Scrum alongside those brave souls who are daring to venture out of the traditional patterns of work, and push the boundaries of safety. This event will be a cross-learning experience, a sharing of both experience and new ideas. You will hear success stories (and failure stories), trials and tribulations, growing pains and quantum leaps; you will get to create new ideas and plans of action together with like-minded colleagues. Attendees will be able to carry forward the learning and experience gathered over the two days, and successfully implement Scrum in many different contexts.

Scrum Beyond Software Development is an Open Space event, held over one weekend. Typically, the agenda for Open Space is determined on the first day of the event by all the participants, and adapted as necessary over the course of the event. We are likely to follow this pattern, but will begin the dialog earlier.

There will be a pre-event dialog group set up to explore the topic, and all those who register will be invited to join in order to share their experience, ask questions and get to know the other attendees in the weeks before the event takes place. Watch this space for more information.

On the Friday prior to the 2-day event a "Scrum Introduction" course will be held. This is recommended for those not yet familiar with Scrum, or only familar through reading books and articles. The workshop facilitator will provide an interactive exploratation of Scrum, guiding participants to a better appreciation of the values and principles that underlie the Scrum framework. Attending this session will help you get the most out of the 2-day Open Space event.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, I feel that the personal and collective leadership I saw here goes so far beyond the scope of systems application, systems implementation and project management work typical of many who work in your field.  What I saw here were people modeling 'the new leadership' – people with passion in their gut who understand in a very holistic way that human dynamics are an integral part of what creates success.

"I saw lots of caring, real depth of insight and awareness, huge intellect and a maturity of knowing that systems change, systems improvement and just plain work is so much more than making a plan, working the plan and getting stuff done.  To see so many from all around the world, who did not personally know each other, connect as they did so quickly having what I call 'Big Talk' as opposed to 'small talk' was also extraordinary.

"My first impressions leave me with the conviction that the Scrum Alliance is a trail blazing organization with a huge potential to leverage and contribute their philosophy of being and doing to this leadership shift that is happening globally in organizations and everywhere.  [...] And yes, it’s all about contributing to a greater purpose one that extends to society and meaningful purpose."

-- Suzanne Daigle, reflecting on the Scrum Gathering Open Space in Orlando, March 2010

There are no "speakers" for this Open Space event, apart from everybody who attends!  The space will be facilitated by Suzanne Diagle, a close colleague of Harrison Owen, who devised the Open Space concept.
