Certified ScrumMaster

All CSM courses are taught by Certified Scrum Trainers. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.



The Course

In this two-day course, you will apply the Scrum framework to build a new product. You will learn what it feels like to be on a Scrum team—experiencing many of the challenges you're likely to face—while being coached by someone involved with the application of Scrum at many organizations. This “learning by doing” style of instruction demands your open mind and active participation.

We will apply the experiential activities to discussion of advanced topics such as how to use Scrum in multiple-team organizations, how to measure progress empirically at a macro level, release planning to maximize ROI, and why such a simple framework disrupts organizations to be the best they can be.

Participants who complete the course successfully will be designated “Certified ScrumMaster” (CSM). This certification includes a two-year membership in the Scrum Alliance, where additional Certified ScrumMaster-only material and information are available.

The Instructor

Jim Schiel is a 26 year veteran of large-scale software engineering and product development, Certified Scrum Trainer, and author of "Enterprise Scale Agile Software Development" (November 2009, CRC Press), a handbook for all those looking to transition their product development organizations to Agile Development practices. Schiel, who began the largest transition to Agile Development ever attempted at the time (1,200+ employees, 7 products, and over 100 Scrum teams) and mentored the transition for four years, now freelances as the owner of his own company, Artisan Software Consulting, and has been helping other large organizations in the United States, Europe, and China achieve agility ever since. He literally wrote the book on the mechanics of large scale agile transitions! 

Jim received his CSM, CSP, and CST certifications from Ken Schwaber, one of the two co-founders of the Scrum process.

Prerequisites

It's always a good idea to come prepared!! If you can read a copy of Ken Schwaber's Agile Software Development with Scrum, you won't be disappointed. However, if you find you can't get through the book before the class, don't worry! You'll learn everything you need to know in the class!

Come with lots of questions, but please try to leave your laptops at home and your phones on vibrate!
