Scrum doesn't work in China! (MB I/II)

Some people exclaim: “Scrum doesn't work in China”. But is that true? How does national culture affect Agile development and Scrum? Bas Vodde grew up in Holland and lived for about ten years in Asia. He has worked with teams in US and most European and Asian countries and agrees that national culture does matter. In this keynote, Bas will start off exploring his own culture and how that influenced his view on what he does. He'll then explore other national cultures by going over different studies, surveys and stories searching for the answer to the question... Can Scrum work in China?

Or, perhaps you have heard that Scrum is only a project management framework. The presentation intents to explore the truth in these matters and to discuss how to effectively integrate the XP technical practices within the Scrum framework.

Technical Excellence: What Is It and How To Get It?

One of the twelve principles in the Agile Manifesto declares, “Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design enhances agility.” The Scrum Guide, however, does not speak about technical excellence but points out that, “Scrum requires Teams to build an increment of product functionality every Sprint,” which implies that whatever the Team does must be sustainable. In this talk we explore what constitutes as technical excellence for a Scrum Team. We ask how it shows in the product and in our process. We also ask how lack of it impacts development and how do we obtain technical excellence.
