This is a Certified ScrumMaster Training Workshop with Michael Vizdos, one of the premier Certified Scrum Trainers in the world today.

Michael has been conducting Certified ScrumMaster Training internationally for many years and lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Have you registered for other events in Richmond, Virginia, and had them cancel on you?

Yeah... It's frustrating as heck.  Really.

Here's the thing:  Mike enjoys sleeping in his own bed at night (and so does his wife, children, dogs, and whatever other miscellaneous pets he has residing with them).

    So he offers this GUARANTEE:

THIS CSM WORKSHOP WILL NOT BE CANCELLED (well, there may be some "act-of-god-force-majure-thingee" in reality).

But this CSM Workshop in Richmond, Virginia, will NOT cancel because of "low attendance" or "no trainer available."

Mike will run this Certified ScrumMaster Workshop in Richmond, Virginia, even if there is only ONE PERSON signed up, registered, and paid (if for some reason this happens he'll let you know).    Workshops can range anywhere from 1 - 28 people (usually 16 is a "sweet spot").

    It will happen.  Guaranteed.  Fair?

This CSM workshop is planned to take place at Gangplank RVA (www.GangplankRVA.org), a non-profit organization Michael helped co-found and continues to develop in Richmond, Virginia.

This non-profit organization is something that got started in Chandler, Arizona (Mike spends a bit of time out there too each year!) about seven years ago.  It's something Mike is passionate about and you'll see many of the concepts being taught actaully taking place around you at this location.

    It's awesome.

A portion of the proceeds goes back to this organization and people from the Gangplank Community will also be in attendance.

If the event sells more seats than the space allows, we will move the workshop to another venue.  Again, it's part of the NO CANCELLATION guarantee.  We all win!

Michael is the author of the site at www.implementingscrum.com, home of the comic strips about the Chicken and Pig in the Scrum World.  You'll see a lot of the comic strips in your workbook (that YOU create along the way... see more below).

Certified Scrum Training with Michael Vizdos of ImplementingScrum.com

Michael has worked with many of the financial and banking companies that have bases of operations in the Richmond, Virginia, area (from Washington DC to Raleigh, North Carolina and beyond).

He has also worked with many of the US Goverment agencies and NGO's (Non-Government Organizations) internationally.  The mix of all these different people in the workshop is an incredible learning and networking event.  Michael helped create the Agile Richmond group (years ago [www.agilerichmond.org]) and is active with this vibrant community today as a speaker and participant.

Richmond is home.   Coming from out of town?  Let me know and we will arrange something together for dinner one evening if you are interested. It's part of the southern charm (OK... Mike does not have that awesome southern drawl but go with it!).

This CSM Training is an immersive and interactive experiential workshop.

You'll walk away with an action plan from the experience that has been personalized by you -- ALSO -- this is not death by slides. Most of the times there is not even an overhead projector in the room.

It will be different than any training you have attended.  Really!  You may see play-dough and pipe cleaners show up for your learning enjoyment.  Yeah.. it's THAT different.   There are no "trust falls" or singing kumbayya to "Scrum" (not touchy feely get-in-touch-with-your-inner-self type of workshop.

Over two days in Richmond, Virginia, you will experience what it is like to work on a Scrum Team from the perspective of a ScrumMaster.

Here is what you can experience....

    Day One

You'll start the day meeting the other attendees in an informal environment at around 8:30 local time and spend some time networking.

We'll get started at 9:00 sharp.

We'll take breaks often, and participation is expcected over the two days.

Mike asks that you do not bring computers and keep your cell phones on stun (silent).

If you want to sleep, please go to another training workshop!

If you just want a certification stamp, please go to another training workshop.

Also, it's pretty infomal on the dress code (ask if you have any quesions about that -- he usually show up in jeans and a T-Shirt).

We'll spend most of the morning talking about basic Agile Principles and some of the fundamentals of Scrum.  This workshop is geared toward software development teams, but we will not dig into any technical stuff during this event.

Scrum is all about people, and you'll experience what it is like to actually work on a Scrum Team and how to effectively create a high performing team.  Since the workshop is generally filled with people at all experience levels, the interactions between all of us will be enhanced by many different simulations, exercises and group discussions about real world situations.

We'll break for lunch (provided -- let us know if you have any dietary restrictions) and then after that we'll start getting into more interesting topics.  No post-lunch carb comas here.

The afternoon is spent exploring what it is like to work on a Scrum Team by actually using Scrum to work with your fellow attendees on a guided project.

We'll then complete a retrospective about what went on and then start discussions about the three roles in Scrum -- the ScrumMaster, Product Owner (we may continue this topic first thing tomorrow morning), and Development Team Member.

These are all from the perspective of a ScrumMaster and introduce concepts of Servant Leadership.

The day will finish with a Retrospective -- and some awesome techniques.  And.  It will end on time (plus or minus two minutes) because we use time boxing effectively to show this powerful aspect of Scrum.

You'll also be building a reading list throughout the two days.  Like we said, it's not for people who want a power-point bla bla bla type of presentation.

    Day 2

You'll see some noticable changes this morning.

We'll start out discussing any questions that have come up (overnight, while you were in the shower, or commuting to the training workshop).

Then, we'll talk about the Scrum Values and how it applies to your real world environments.  Here come's more about that topic of Servant Leadership (and still no touchy feely crap -- PROMISE!).

We'll have some coversations about the interactions the Product Owner will have with the Development Team, the ScrumMaster, and the outside Stakeholders.

This is a powerful section to help demonstrate the power of that INCEDIBLE Product Owner can have with the team.  As a ScrumMaster, you'll be working very closely with the Product Owner, Development Team Members, and outside stakeholders so understanding the three roles and how you interact with them is very important. Almost vital.  Really.

We will examine the important definition of DONE within a Sprint along with figuring out who is your real customer.  Results here are usually very enlightening -- and important to move on with the rest of the day!

You'll then learn two very important techniques -- creating user stories and then figuring out how to do estimations as a team.

Your customers may really want to know only two things -- when are you going to get done and how much will it cost?  By early afternoon, you'll understand how to do this at the Sprint and Release Planning levels.

    You still reading this?

Cool.  Thank you (I hope it is describing it in enough detail for you [smile].  I am totally excited about doing this  Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Workshop in my home town of Richmond, Virginia (#RVA) together with you.

    We'll break for lunch.

And, as with lunch day one and then during all the breaks, most people break out into small groups to discuss what can happen with all the things you have learned so far.

After lunch, we'll finish up the Sprint and Release planning, and then head into some topics that are driven by you and the rest of the participants in the workshop.

Througout the two days you'll have the chance to play the role of a ScrumMaster and -- guided by me -- see what it is like to walk through some effective retrospective techniques learned at the end of the first day (and, as you'll see, acutally used during the entire two days).

Coming out of the two days, you should have some real steps that you can put into place the next working day with the techniques you have learned.

It's the beginning of a journey.  Just the beginning.

    After the Scrum Training Workshop

You'll get all the information you need to get registered with the Scrum Alliance (the non-profit organization that issues the certification) and then take an online test.

Don't worry about scoring 100% -- you DO NOT need to be perfect (I know... being part of the 100% club is a thing I strive for regualrly too!).  Based on the aggregate numbers from all my international attendees, this should not be something hard to finish.

Once you pass the test with the Scrum Alliance online, you'll have a two year membership with the Scrum Alliance and you'll be a Certified ScrumMaster.  The initial membership fee is ($50.00) is included in the cost of your workshop attendance, and we'll take care of processing all that with the Scrum Alliance for you.

If you need PDU's for the PMI or other continuing education credits, we'll work with you to make sure you get them applied appropriately (usually good for 14 PDUs).

Over time, you'll also have the opportunity to keep in touch with me.  And if you don't want to hear from me again, it's OK too.  I'll give you advice along the way and you'll have real life access to me even after the training is completed.

    I want you to succeed.

    I am here to help.

If you have any questions about this, please contact me at +1 619-709-1716 (my personal phone number).

All CSM courses are taught by Certified Scrum Trainers. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.
