    The Scrum Alliance’s Certified Scrum Master (CSM) course introduces Scrum concepts, practices, and principles to people who desire a foundational exposure to agile and Scrum. The class format that is hands-on, experiential and Socratic. Attendees will utilize a variety of exercises, activities, discussions and resources to help them learn and apply Scrum in both software and non-software product development situations. Subsequent to passing the CSM examination on the Scrum Alliance website, class completers become Certified ScrumMasters, a first step in the journey of learning Scrum and becoming proficient in its use. Class attendees will work individually and in small teams to learn class subject matter through an acceptance test learning format. The course includes a detailed Scrum project simulation and other exercises that will reinforce subject concepts. Participants will have opportunity to explore and apply self-organization and self-directed concepts that are attributes of high performing teams.

    Participants learn about the 3 Scrum roles (Team Member, Product Owner, and ScrumMaster), the 4 Scrum meetings (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective) and process of building product in a time-boxed iteration called a Sprint. Attendees learn about the paradigm shifts that occur when organizations move from traditional linear / defined development environments to the empirical agile environment and strategies and tactics used to support and manage the change that occurs. Learning occurs in a highly interactive, exercise-based and discussion-based learning environment. Attendees learn by exploring and doing, not through lecture and at the end of the class should have an appreciable understanding of:

    All CSM courses are taught by Certified Scrum Trainers. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.

    About Tom Mellor, Certified Scrum Trainer: Tom has 20 years experience in all levels and types of training, including 5 years as one of about 150 certified Scrum Alliance trainers throughpout the world. The Scrum Alliance is the largest Scrum certification organization in the world and Tom is a past member and chair of its Board of Directors. He has been involved in business and IT for 35 years, most of it in management and he graduated from the University of Montana. He enjoys working with the broader organizations, teams, and the broader Scrum community learn and use Scrum. Tom introduced Scrum and agile to one of the world's largest companies in 2004 and has spent the last several years training and coaching IT employees and others in the use of Scrum. He is a speaker at conferences and consults to organizations and teamsabout the use of Scrum and the impact of agile in company culture.
