    Date: 8-9 June, 2010
    Location: Atlanta, GA, United States

Regular Price: US$950 per person for ScrumU

This course will be led by Joe Little and Kristine Shannon.  Joe is an experienced Agile Coach and Scrum Trainer.  He co-teaches regularly with Jeff Sutherland and other great Scrum trainers.  He has a CSM, CSP, CST and an MBA.

    Participants Will Learn:

    • To plan, initiate and lead a Scrum project
    • To establish a shared vision for the entire team
    • To generate an agile release plan utilizing user stories and story point estimation
    • To lead your Scrum team through planning, review, and retrospective sessions
    • To create an environment in which self-managing teams can flourish
    • To identify and remove impediments
    • To identify, engage and involve business stakeholders in your project
    • How to take most existing teams to the next level
    • Practical suggestions purchased expensively from the school of hard knocks

In this course, we typically mix in XP and Lean ideas.  Having worked recently with Jeff Sutherland, we mix in many of his ideas and stories.  Having a business background and MBA, we have oriented perhaps a bit more toward the Product Owners and business issues.

    Additional Information:
The course will run from 9am-5pm each day. You will need to arrive by 8:30am on the first day. A continental breakfast, breaks and lunch will be provided.

Following the course, each participant is enrolled as a Certified ScrumMaster, which includes a one-year membership in the Scrum Alliance, where additional ScrumMaster-only material and information are available.

    Course Material:
Participants will receive course materials (not books) at the course. The CSM course was formulated to train and certify ScrumMasters and is used worldwide for ScrumMaster training. In addition, participants should obtain (at their own expense) Agile Project Management with Scrum, by Ken Schwaber, which is required reading for the course. You may also wish to obtain the primary Scrum book, Agile Software Development with SCRUM by Schwaber and Beedle, on which the course is based.

Of course, there will be updated material and training exercises in the course which you cannot get from books. The entire syllabus will be made available upon registering for the course so you can look it over and bring it with you to the sessions.

All CSM courses are taught by Certified Scrum Trainers. Taking a CSM course, passing the CSM test, and accepting the license agreement designates you as a Certified ScrumMaster, which indicates that you have been introduced to and understand the basic concepts you need to perform as a ScrumMaster or team member on a Scrum team. This course also satisfies two elements of the CSD track: Scrum Introduction and Elective.

  • Who Should Attend

This is a special ScrumU group course, but also available to the public.  ScrumU is a group of IT Professionals in universities and colleges who are using Scrum (or want to).  It also wants to include professors at universities who are teaching Lean-Agile.  If you are from "industry" and would like to attend, please contact us directly.  The fee for ScrumU members is reduced to $950.

This course has been taken by everyone connected to a Scrum Team.  The CEO, COO and CFO of a company have attended and it has benefited the company.  The future ScrumMaster, Product Owner, Team members, managers, and other stakeholders have attended.  Everyone.  With profit.

It is common for whole Teams (and related stakeholders) to take the course all at one time. This is very valuable.

As you can tell by the title of the course, it was originally designed to teach people to become ScrumMasters.  Sometimes one person can take the course, learn about Scrum, already have the basic skills of a ScrumMaster, and go back and implement Scrum quickly with success. (Greater investment generally leads to even better results.)

You will get useful knowledge about how and why Scrum works.

The course includes many interactive exercises and small-group discussions. These will prepare you to plan your first Sprint immediately after this class.  This is a practical course.

PMPs: You can receive 14-16 Professional Development Units (PDUs) for this course.
