Hello my name is Corey Witherspoon.
I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts. I now live in Silver Spring, Maryland. I attended undergraduate school at The American University, where I received a Degree in Finance in 1995. I worked in finance for about five years then decided on a career change. I attended graduate school at The University of Maryland, University College. There I received a Masters Degree in Computer Systems Management with a focus on Database Security and Design. Since graduating in 2007, I obtained my PMP credentials from the Project Management Institute (PMI) in 2010.
Since starting my second career path, I've had the pleasure to work in the IT field as a contractor for both Public and Military agencies and Pfizer Corporation. I started out supporting the test team for the Military Healthcare application CHCSII with ACS Federal Healthcare. I worked for SAIC for eight years, I supporting the Pfizer database integration project; and working with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). While on those projects I became familiar with how IT was impacting healthcare now and how it was going to impact healthcare into the future. I was at the forefront of a number of initiatives within HHS to bring about better interagency communication using PIV-II and implementing HSPD-12. Currently, I was with CGI Federal, and I supported a contract for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). We developed and maintain the PECOS application which supports over one million doctors and other healthcare providers. In addition to supporting PECOS, my team also supported the Electronic Health Record initiative both from a development and help desk standpoint with the general user population. Now I work with DRT Strategies supporting the Food and Drug Administration, Enterprise Performance Life Cycle Program Management Office. One of my primary tasks will be supporting the implementation of Agile Scrum to the FDA Centers. I also teach an undergraduate class for the University of Phoenix on IT in Healthcare.
When, I'm not working usually I'm in training for toughmudder. Toughmudder is a ten to twelve mile obstacle course, with the proceeds going to the wounded warrior project. I am an active member of the Rockville Chapter of the Project Management Instititute (PMI).
