Biography

Robert Thompson was born and raised in Sonoma County. Most of his adult life has been spent there save a couple of years living in the Southern California beach communities, and his years away at college. He graduated from UC Davis with a BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering and later completed an MS in Engineering Management from Stanford University. Robert recently completed the certification requirements for ScrumMaster and Product Owner.

Most of his professional career was spent as an R&D Engineer and Engineering Project Manager with HP and Agilent Technologies. Robert worked in both hybrid technology process development and advanced integrated circuit package design and development for RF and microwave instrument applications, the latter focusing on heat transfer analysis/modeling and materials selection. He holds a US Patent for an integral dielectric heatspreader for transferring heat from semiconductor devices.

The pc/workstation and Internet played an integral role in the latter years of his engineering career. Robert's real interest now is in the artistic and technical details of web design, development, and programming, so he has taken numerous classes at SRJC in this area. He currently owns a web design and development business called “eVantageFive”.

Robert's three children are grown now and have completed their college educations. His daughter Beth graduated from UCLA and is now an a Media Relations Manager for Hewlett-Packard. Her twin brother Brian completed his undergraduate work at UC Davis and received his law degree from UC Hastings College Of The Law. He is an attorney for a major international trial and litigation law firm, also in San Francisco. His youngest son Mark graduated from UC Berkeley, and then earned a Master's Degree at San Diego State University. He lives in San Diego and works as a substitute teacher while he decides whether teaching is his chosen career path.

Robert always enjoys learning new things, so when he is not reading or taking classes, he trains for, and participates in, endurance cycling events. He also enjoys spending time with friends and family.
