Nick Woodhouse: I have been in the IT industry for over 40 years starting as a lowly mainframe computer operator, rising to the level of Executive Manager IT with a UK building society.
Having spent all our lives living in the UK my wife and I moved to Australia in February 2008. Our only daughter and son-in-law emigrated to Oz some 18 months earlier bringing our only grandchild, 2 year-old Isabel, with them. We always told them we would follow! Having worked for Fujitsu Services UK for some 10 years Fujitsu Australia agreed to sponsor me over. We now have 2 grandaughters and 2 grandsons and although they live some 3 hours away we get to see them very regularly, a far cry from if we'd stayed in the UK.
We love the life in Western Australia and Perth is a great city. I can certainly recommend it and the lifestyle here.
Since starting work for Fujitsu Australia I have been acting as a Senior Service Delivery Manager for a major Western Australian Government department. Besides supporting the departments legacy applications my team, together with other Fujitsu staff, develop new systems primarily based on Microsoft .NET3.5 technologies. We have used a Scrum Agile approach to seven of these, defining our own process and tools to assist the projects in the environments we use (VSTS/TFS, C#, SparxEA, etc.). Both the agile method and the resultant products have been very well received by the client with good, referenceable comments.
