Originally trained as an electronics engineer, Mike moved into software development by writing embedded code for micro-controllers in the aerospace industry. Later, he spent time addressing the introduction of electronic documentation systems for complex systems, which enabled him to move into publishing in 1995.
In 1999 he became production manager of an e-learning publishing company and since then has taken management jobs with responsibility for programme management and the successful delivery of software projects.
It was this experience of seeing the same problems with the waterfall project life cycle recur across projects that lead him to research alternatives and, as a result, adopt Scrum.
He has applied Scrum in his current organisation to begin to overcome these problems and is successfully evangelising its use more widely in the company.
