Biography

Jaco Viljoen is a Certified ScrumMaster and principal consultant at IndigoCube, a process and project management consultancy and training firm. Jaco specializes in helping companies adopt and improve their use of agile processes and techniques in order to build extremely high performance development organizations.

As principal consultant I train and consult on various software development best practices. Since I tried Scrum and saw the results I was converted. Since then I tried to focus on helping customers make the transition to agile.

Perago is a product development organisation that transitioned to Agile/Scrum. I joined them as the ScrumMaster for three teams. Together with this my responsibilities included working with the leadership team to remove impediments and suggest ways in which to improve their current practices. This allowed me to link with the whole organisation and help them to beome more agile. The CEO's aim was to create predictability and improve quality. Year one focussed on the first aim, which was reached to CEO's satisfaction whilst I was still there.

Consulting: Liberty Agile Consulting on Xplan Project, Principal Consultant

Liberty planning based on traditional development methods indicated that they could not complete the Xplan project in the timeframes demanded by business. Since this was a strategic project Liberty approached IndigoCube for some help. As principal consultant I helped them plan and run this project as an agile/Scrum project. I worked with the Program Manager and ScrumMaster to implement practices that would ensure faster time to market. These we successfully implemented and the Xplan project was implemented within an acceptable timeframe for business. Subsequently I worked with the Program Manager to define an agile process for future Liberty projects.
