Biography

  • Guy Dugas is fluently bilingual in French and English. He attained his Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Manitoba, a Bachelor of Education from the Université de Saint Boniface, and a Masters in Education from the University of Manitoba.
  • Guy's first sixteen years in industry were mainly as a business systems' programmer/analyst through the 70s and 80s and then as an IT manager until the mid-nineties.
  • His academic career began in 1996 as a Red River College instructor in the Computer Analyst /Programmer and Information Systems Technology diploma programs. For the next 11 years he taught a variety of technical and business courses, and was at different times course lead for RPG Programming, Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, e-Commerce, and Business Computing. Always active both within and outside his department of Accounting & Computer Education, Guy sat on several committees and participated in a number of special projects, including an e-Business Wiki project for which he won a national award in 2007 for Excellence and Innovation in Use of Learning Technology issued by the Canadian Association for Distance Education and the Association for Media and Technology in Education in Canada.
  • While an Information and Communications Technology instructor, Guy was active outside of Red River College as an external program reviewer for other ICT programs at Niagara College (Welland Campus), St. Boniface College Technical & Professional School in Winnipeg, and the Canadian Police College in Ottawa. He also served on a number of projects, committees, and Boards, including with Athabasca University, the Manitoba Research Institute, and Campus Canada.
  • He co-founded Digital Learning Inc. in 2004 with a fellow instructor to market CourseGenie, a product Guy had helped bring to market with Connected Learning of the U.K. Digital Learning would branch out into other e-Learning product development, including curriculum mapping software and post-secondary online course development and delivery, notably Red River College’s award-winning Science of Early Child Development.
  • Elected to the Board of Governors of Red River College in 2006, Guy served as governor for one two-year term.
  • Guy was hired as Chair of Accounting and Computer Education in 2007, his final position with the College until his retirement in January of 2013. To focus on his responsibilities as Chair, Guy divested himself of all interests in Digital Learning Inc.
  • ScrumMaster certification was completed in 2009.
  • In January 2013 Guy incorporated his IT consulting company, spright.ca, and resumed consulting. Building on 18 years in ICT and 17 years academic experience, spright.ca’s strengths are in post-secondary curriculum and program development, instructional design, learning technologies, team building, and Scrum.
