Geoffrey B. Baker
Widely regarded as a visionary in launching innovative applications that increase the value of healthcare for consumers and providers, Mr. Baker brings 25 years of diverse industry and technology experience as an accomplished executive and entrepreneur. Mr. Baker founded and sold several service and software companies. This includes filing two patents and launching 5 innovative applications to increase the value of health care (quality/cost) and improve informed decision-making for consumers and providers. His understanding of healthcare, software and analytics led him to design, patent and launch a top rated provider search engine that guides several million consumers to get the right care at the best value from the right provider. In 2008, Consumer Health World reviewed the provider search application among 70 entries and awarded the application as Best Website for Patient/Consumer Information.
Mr. Baker has served as general manager for IT offshore and onshore delivery with $40M in P & L responsibilities and 1000 employees for Cognizant. Previously, Mr. Baker raised $14M to build and scale a leading healthcare informatics company (Med-Vantage) before majority acquisition by several Blue Cross insurance plans. He led product management, R & D, sales and operations and was responsible for $6M in contract sales for complex enterprise applications at healthplans in 2007. Before 2001, Mr. Baker founded three other companies, and held leadership positions at a joint venture between HCA and UniHealth, Ernst & Young, Cigna and Bank of America.
Currently, as a principal at Venture Advisory Services, Mr. Baker consults with several healthcare and technology companies to develop and implement long-term business strategies. His work includes providing direction on product management, creating high performance cultures and engaging employees, scaling operations for growth, raising capital, accelerating sales and developing new markets.
Mr. Baker received his Master of Business degree from the Wharton School of Business and his Bachelor's degree in Economics from Williams College. Mr. Baker is listed in 2008 and 2007 Directories of Who’s Who of Top Healthcare Executive Profiles and has authored chapters in 3 books and over 20 professional articles on pay-for-performance, transparency, disease management, healthcare reimbursement, contracting, financial controls, physician profiling and health information technology. He is also an accomplished national speaker on care and technology topics with over 32 speaking engagements and webcasts to date.
